Can't Leave Alone Bars – Easy Chocolate-Filled Cake Bars

Close-up of Can’t Leave Alone chocolate-filled cake bar on a mosaic plate, showing moist texture

I’ve really worked to get my cake mix stash down to a reasonable level… but then I found this recipe for Can’t Leave Alone Bars. It comes together so quickly and is super easy to customize with different cake mix flavors or types of chips. Dangerously good — and way too easy to keep making again and again.

What You'll Need

  • 1 box white cake mix

  • 2 large eggs

  • 1/3 cup oil

  • 1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk

  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips

  • 1/2 cup butter

How to Make Them

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 9x13-inch baking pan or line with parchment paper.

  2. In a medium bowl, combine the cake mix, eggs, and oil. Mix until dough forms. Press two-thirds of the dough into the bottom of the prepared pan.

  3. In a saucepan, melt the butter and chocolate chips over low heat. Stir in the sweetened condensed milk until smooth.

  4. Pour the chocolate mixture over the dough in the pan.

  5. Drop the remaining dough by spoonfuls over the top.

  6. Bake for 20–25 minutes or until golden brown. Cool completely before cutting into bars.

FAQs

Can I use a different flavor of cake mix?
Yes! Chocolate cake mix creates a brownie-style bar, while yellow cake mix gives a classic cookie taste.

Can I double the recipe?
Yes, use a 9×13-inch pan and increase the bake time slightly — start checking around 25 minutes.

How do I store them?
Let the bars cool completely. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for 3–4 days or freeze for up to 2 months.

Strawberry Pizzelles

Pizzelles are one of my favorite childhood cookies and I'm constantly looking for ways to put a new spin on them.  Since one of my favorite summer fruits is strawberries, I swapped out the vanilla in the original recipe with strawberry extract.

Easy Stuffed Waffles with Sweet and Savory Fillings

Stuffed waffles are a fun twist on the classic waffle—crispy on the outside and packed with tasty fillings inside. I recently got a stuffed waffle maker, and I’m loving how it turns waffles into little pockets of deliciousness! The best part? You don’t need a strict recipe because this is a perfect “clean out the fridge” meal. Grab whatever leftovers or fillings you have on hand, stuff ’em inside, and waffle away! Here’s what I tried this time, but feel free to get creative and make it your own.
