Creamy Pumpkin Hummus

Welcome to 2023’s #HalloweenTreatsWeek event! If you're new here, welcome! If you're a returning haunt, welcome back!

HalloweenTreatsWeek is a yearly blogging event that is hosted by Angie from Big Bear’s Wife. You'll find that this fun and spooky event is an online, week-long event that is filled with some frightfully fun Halloween treats and recipes from some fantastic Halloween loving bloggers!

I know that everyone thinks sweets and candy when they think about Halloween but I really wanted to kick things off with a savory recipe. I eat hummus pretty much every afternoon and I'm always looking for some fun ways to change it up.  I found James S's recipe for Creamy Pumpkin Hummus on the Taste of Home website and I tweaked it just a bit.

I used blood orange juice, super fitting for Halloween, right? I couldn't find pumpkin oil, so I used olive oil instead. I absolutely love pepitas but I'm not really crazy about pomegranate so I substituted dried cranberries.

The suggested dippers were pita chips, apples and pears.  Since the orange juice and the dried cranberries lean in the "sweet" direction, it's also great with graham crackers or gingersnap cookies.

This will be great all Fall long, but you can embrace the Halloween theme by serving it up in small plastic cauldrons that you can find at party stores or department stores.

Thank you so much to Angie for hosting this week! Make sure to check out all of the fun recipes that we're sharing this week! You can follow the hashtag #HalloweenTreatsWeek on social media to collect all of these frightful recipes to use at your own Halloween parties and events!

Strawberry Pizzelles

Pizzelles are one of my favorite childhood cookies and I'm constantly looking for ways to put a new spin on them.  Since one of my favorite summer fruits is strawberries, I swapped out the vanilla in the original recipe with strawberry extract.

Easy Stuffed Waffles with Sweet and Savory Fillings

Stuffed waffles are a fun twist on the classic waffle—crispy on the outside and packed with tasty fillings inside. I recently got a stuffed waffle maker, and I’m loving how it turns waffles into little pockets of deliciousness! The best part? You don’t need a strict recipe because this is a perfect “clean out the fridge” meal. Grab whatever leftovers or fillings you have on hand, stuff ’em inside, and waffle away! Here’s what I tried this time, but feel free to get creative and make it your own.
