H is for Honey!
Whipped honey is smooth, creamy, and easy to spread straight from the jar. It has the same flavor as regular honey but a thick texture that makes it perfect for toast, biscuits, charcuterie boards, and more.
This simple method is also a great way to use up jars of crystallized honey and turn them back into something spoonable and spreadable.
Whipped honey, also called creamed honey, is honey that has been whipped into a soft, creamy texture using crystallized honey as the base.
What You’ll Need
- 1 jar crystallized raw honey
- Hand mixer with standard beaters
- Small mixing bowl
- Spoon or spatula
- Clean glass jar with lid (for re-jarring)
- Warm water (only if needed to soften honey)
How to Make Whipped Honey
1. Soften the honey if needed
If the honey is very firm, place the sealed jar in a bowl of warm water until it softens enough to scoop and stir. Do not fully liquefy.2. Transfer to a bowl
Scoop the honey into a small mixing bowl. Break up any large chunks with a spoon.3. Mix until smooth
Use a hand mixer or stand mixer on medium speed and whip for about 10 to 20 minutes, or until the honey is very thick, smooth, and completely uniform with no graininess.4. Jar it
Spoon the honey into the clean jar.5. Let it rest
Let sit at room temperature for a few days to allow the texture to fully stabilize to a spreadable texture.Tips for Best Results
- Do not refrigerate, as this can make the honey too firm
- The finer the crystals, the smoother the final texture
- Mixing multiple jars together before whipping helps create a more consistent batch
- Whipping improves texture, but resting time is what creates the final creamy consistency
- Stand Mixer: Use the paddle attachment on medium speed and stop once the honey is smooth and creamy to avoid a foamy texture.
Variations
Vanilla Whipped Honey: Add 1 teaspoon vanilla extract or seeds from ½ vanilla bean per cup of honey.
Cinnamon Whipped Honey: Add ½ to 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon per cup of honey.
Citrus Whipped Honey: Add ½ teaspoon finely grated lemon or orange zest per cup of honey.
Spiced Whipped Honey: Add a pinch of nutmeg or cardamom for a warm, aromatic flavor.
Hot Honey Whipped Honey: Use hot honey in place of regular honey and prepare as directed.

What a great idea!!! I usually try to save my honey by putting it in the microwave with mixed results. I'm going to whip it into shape next time. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteNormally I put the jar of crystallized honey in a bigger bowl with warm water which I have to change and replenish until it finally all melts. This is a much easier and useful idea! I had no idea whipped honey was this simple. Thanks, Jolene!
ReplyDeleteThank you Jolene I know what to do with my crystallized honey. Even though I put the jar in warm water it refuses to liquefy.
ReplyDeleteI love cream honey/whipped honey and I can recall from a young age just how very expensive the tiny jars were! Love this method to make it yourself!!
ReplyDeleteGenius! i have a quarter jar of crystallized honey. I was wondering what to do with it. I am trying this right away.
ReplyDeleteI've never made this before...but I remember my mom always had some around the house. On the must-try list for things I need to make!!!
