Stuffed waffles are a fun twist on the classic waffle—crispy on the outside and packed with tasty fillings inside.
I recently got a stuffed waffle maker, and I’m loving how it turns waffles into little pockets of deliciousness! The best part? You don’t need a strict recipe because this is a perfect “clean out the fridge” meal. Grab whatever leftovers or fillings you have on hand, stuff ’em inside, and waffle away! Here’s what I tried this time, but feel free to get creative and make it your own.
I'd seen videos floating around TikTok and Instagram of people making stuffed waffles so I hopped over to Amazon and ordered the Elite Gourmet version. The instructions were fairly straightforward but there was no recipe so I made up a batch of Classic Waffle batter.
About the Waffle Maker
I’m using the Elite Gourmet EWM380M Stuffed Waffle Maker, which makes creating stuffed waffles super easy. It has nonstick plates and heats up quickly. Before you start, preheat the waffle maker fully (usually the indicator light will let you know when it’s ready). Cooking time varies but generally takes about 3 to 5 minutes per waffle, depending on how crispy you like them. Just be careful not to overfill the batter or the fillings, or it might spill out during cooking.
What I Used:
Classic waffle batter (homemade or store-bought)
Taco Stuffed Waffles
-
Leftover taco meat (about 1/4 cup per waffle)
-
Fiesta blend cheese (about 1/4 cup per waffle)
-
Optional: salsa and sour cream for serving
Pepperoni Pizza Style Waffles
-
Pepperoni (quartered)
-
Mozzarella cheese (about 1/4 cup per waffle)
-
Italian seasoning (a pinch)
-
Optional: warmed marinara sauce for dipping
Strawberry "Cheesecake" Waffles
-
Strawberries (sliced)
-
Cream cheese (softened)
-
Vanilla bean paste (to taste)
-
Powdered sugar (for dusting)
How to Make Stuffed Waffles:
-
Start with your favorite waffle batter—homemade or store-bought works great.
-
Preheat your stuffed waffle maker.
-
Spoon a little batter onto the waffle maker, then add your fillings.
Top the filling with a bit more batter to seal it inside.
-
Close the waffle maker and cook until golden and crispy.
-
Enjoy hot with your favorite dipping sauce or toppings—or just as is!
No need to measure exactly—just use enough filling to pack in good flavor without making it too messy.
For the taco stuffed I added the taco meat and cheese in the middle and then set out some salsa and sour cream to top them with. Learning curve lesson 1- make sure your ingredients are all room temp before you start, they will bake much quicker.
For the pepperoni pizza style, I cut the pepperoni in quarters using kitchen shears, sprinkled with mozzarella cheese and then a bit of Italian seasoning. Those I served up with some warmed sauce.
Lastly, the strawberry "cheesecake" style. In a small bowl I heated up some cream cheese then added some vanilla bean paste to it. I laid down some strawberry slices and then dolloped the cream cheese mixture on top. I finished those off with a dusting of powdered sugar and more strawberries on top.
Tips & FAQs
Q: How much batter should I use?
A: Use just enough batter to cover the waffle maker surface, too much can overflow or make the waffles soggy. I found that using a little less batter and more filling gives the best stuffed waffle experience.
Q: What’s the best way to divide the batter and fillings?
A: Start by spooning some batter down, then add your fillings evenly in the center or spread out as you like. Top with a bit more batter to seal it all inside. This helps everything cook evenly and keeps the fillings from leaking out.
Q: How can I tell different flavors apart if I’m making several?
A: Since the outside of the waffles looks similar regardless of filling, mark them somehow! You could use toothpicks with colored flags, arrange each flavor on separate plates, or even jot down a quick note. This way, you’ll know which waffle is which without any guessing.
Q: Can I use leftovers or any fillings I have?
A: Absolutely! This recipe is perfect for cleaning out your fridge. Just chop or shred whatever you have—meats, veggies, cheese, sauces—and stuff away. Don’t worry about exact measurements; just fill to your taste.
Q: Any tips for serving?
A: Serve them hot with your favorite dips, like sour cream, salsa, honey, or syrup.
I’ve definitely got a bunch more ideas I want to try—like blueberries with lemon curd, ham and cheese, or cornbread waffles stuffed with chili. I love kitchen gadgets like this that let me get creative and experiment with flavors!
What would you stuff inside your waffles? Share your favorite combos or ideas in the comments, I’d love to hear what you come up with!!
