Monte Cristo Stuffed Waffles

Monte Cristo Stuffed Waffles are a delicious spin on a classic sandwich.  Crispy buttermilk waffles filled with ham, turkey & Gruyère, dusted with confectioners sugar and served with strawberry jam.

Ever since I got my stuffed waffle maker, I’ve been having way too much fun creating new recipes. Whether I’m repurposing leftovers or playing with new flavor combos, it never disappoints. One of my favorites so far are these Monte Cristo Stuffed Waffles.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

For the Waffle batter: flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, milk, eggs, vegetable oil, vanilla extract

Filling: deli ham, deli turkey, shredded Gruyere cheese

Toppings: powdered sugar, strawberry jam

Preheat and prep

Heat your waffle iron according to the manufacturer’s directions and give it a good spray with nonstick cooking spray.

Mix the batter

In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. In a separate bowl, whisk the buttermilk, eggs, oil, and vanilla. Combine wet and dry ingredients just until smooth.

Build the stuffed waffle

Pour about ¼ cup of waffle batter onto the iron (not pictured).  Layer with 2 slices of ham, a handful (about ¼ cup) of shredded Gruyère, and 2 slices of turkey. Top with another ¼ cup of batter to cover everything up.

Cook it up!

Close the waffle iron and cook for 8 to 10 minutes, or until the waffle is golden brown and crispy on the outside.

For the finishing touch, dust with powdered sugar and serve with warm strawberry jam or maple syrup drizzled on top or on the side for dipping.

Not a fan of Gruyère? Swiss or mozzarella will work nicely too.  And I'll be honest, while I gave you a measurement for cheese, I never measure cheese. You gotta measure that with your heart!

Feeding a crowd for brunch? Keep finished waffles warm on a baking sheet in a 200ºF oven while you make more.

Sweet, savory, crispy, melty—these Monte Cristo Stuffed Waffles hit all the right notes. They’re easy to make, super delicious, and definitely worth a spot on your brunch lineup!

I wasn't sure I was going to blog these stuffed waffles since it was the first time I tried using the new iron but since I'd already taken the pics as I went I figured, why not? They aren't perfect but they are delicious!
