The Rum Daisy is a simple mix of tart lime, sweet grenadine, and light rum- just three ingredients for one delicious drink.
A “Daisy” is a classic cocktail formula built around a spirit, citrus juice, and a sweetener, usually something like grenadine or orange liqueur. For this version, light rum steps in for gin or brandy and gives it a tropical vibe.
I pulled this one from The Classic Cocktail Deck: 75 Recipes for the Home Bartender. The cards are sorted by spirit, so you can flip right to what you’ve got and pick your next drink.
What You’ll Need
Ingredients:
-
Light rum
Fresh lime juice
-
Grenadine
-
A reserved lime wedge (from the juicing)
-
Ice cubes
Tools:
-
Cocktail shaker
-
Jigger or measuring tool, I like the Oxo mini measuring cup
-
Rocks glass
How to Make a Rum Daisy
Juice a fresh lime and save the squeezed wedge.
In your shaker, combine light rum, lime juice, grenadine, and that used lime wedge.
Fill with ice, seal, and shake hard for 15–20 seconds to get it ice-cold with just a touch of melt.
Pour everything (ice and all) into a rocks glass. No straining needed!
Tips and Tricks
-
Use fresh lime juice for the best flavor—bottled just doesn’t cut it.
-
Don’t toss the squeezed lime wedge! Adding it to the shaker adds a smidge of bitter that balances the sweetness.
-
Can I use dark rum instead? Yes! Dark rum adds a deeper flavor if you want to switch things up.
-
What if I don’t have grenadine? Try pomegranate juice or cherry syrup.
-
Want to make it fizzy? Add a splash of club soda or seltzer to the glass after pouring.
