Easy Jalapeño Green Beans

These Easy Jalapeño Green Beans are sautéed in olive oil, seasoned with shallot pepper and salt, then finished with lemon zest.

If you're tired of plain green beans, this quick recipe brings the heat and a citrusy twist. It's easy to make in one skillet, uses just a few simple ingredients, and goes great with just about anything from the grill, oven, or stovetop. A fast and flavorful vegetable side ready in under 15 minutes.

What You'll Need

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 jalapeño pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 teaspoon shallot pepper
  • 1 pound fresh green beans, cut into 2-inch pieces
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Zest from one lemon

How to Make Them

  1. In a large cast-iron or other heavy skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the sliced jalapeño and cook, stirring, until tender, about 2 to 3 minutes.
  3. Add green beans, shallot pepper, and salt. Stir to coat evenly.
  4. Cook and stir for 8 to 10 minutes, until beans are tender. Reduce heat if needed to prevent over-browning.
  5. Transfer to a serving plate and zest the lemon over the top.
  6. Serve immediately.

Tips and Variations

  • For a milder dish, remove the seeds from the jalapeño before sautéing.

  • No shallot pepper? Use 1–2 tsp minced fresh shallot with the jalapeño and season the beans with salt and freshly ground black pepper.

  • A squeeze of lemon juice can be added for extra brightness.

  • Add minced garlic for a more savory flavor profile.

This recipe is quick to make in one skillet, using just a handful of ingredients. The jalapeño gives it a little attitude, and the lemon zest wakes everything up. It’s simple, fresh, and one of those sides you’ll want to keep in your back pocket.

  1. You're definitely inspiring me with this recipe. Pickled jalapeños, taco seasoning, cilantro...or a combination of all three??? But it looks pretty perfect as is to!!!

Strawberry Pizzelles

Pizzelles are one of my favorite childhood cookies and I'm constantly looking for ways to put a new spin on them.  Since one of my favorite summer fruits is strawberries, I swapped out the vanilla in the original recipe with strawberry extract.

Easy Stuffed Waffles with Sweet and Savory Fillings

Stuffed waffles are a fun twist on the classic waffle—crispy on the outside and packed with tasty fillings inside. I recently got a stuffed waffle maker, and I’m loving how it turns waffles into little pockets of deliciousness! The best part? You don’t need a strict recipe because this is a perfect “clean out the fridge” meal. Grab whatever leftovers or fillings you have on hand, stuff ’em inside, and waffle away! Here’s what I tried this time, but feel free to get creative and make it your own.
